Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Cruises Past PSU-Schuylkill

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team defeated Penn State-Schuylkill on Friday evening by a score of 65-30.

The Huskies raced out to a 15-2 lead over the first 9:38 of the first half. . Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) hit a jumper and a three on consecutive possessions and a turnaround jumper by Giselle Lara (Toronto, Ca/Jamestown CC) keyed the Huskies run. Bloomsburg would extend their first half lead to as many as 19 points following a Steph Rankin (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) lay-up with 3:13 remaining in the first, before heading to halftime with a 27-11 lead.

In the second half, The Huskies would double up PSU-Schuylkill, stretching their lead to 50-24 with 7:20 remaining in the game. The Huskies would close the game out on a 15-6 run, holding PSU-Schuylkill scoreless over the last 4:57.

Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) led Bloomsburg with 23 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while Lara chipped in eight points. Katie James led PSU-Schuylkill with 11 points.

The Huskies improve to 2-1 on season.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Goldley-Beacom College. That game tips off at 6 p.m.
